English in « classe de seconde » ….
chose faite, bravo à notre gagnante and enjoy the reading ;)
L'article de Laura Lissy :
INTERVIEW OF A
BASKETBALL PLAYER
Tom Sadler from Saint-Dizier Basket team
Tom Sadler was born in 1983 in London, in the same
hospital as David Beckam, situated in the East of London and called Whippscross
and he grew up in this city. His father is a taxi driver in London and his
mother lives in Brightlingsea so they must be divorced. He has got a married
older brother of 40, whose name is Darrel.
Tom studied in a public
school, whose name is Colme Community School then at 16 years old, he went to a
college to study art and design. He left school in England at 18 years old to
go to Boston in America to Farmington senior highschool. After he went to
Franklin Perce college where he studied business. Tom described us a typical
day for a British student. So they start school at 9:00 a.m, then they have a 20-
minute break at 10:30 a.m and after they go back to class. They have lunch at
12:00 a.m and their day of school finishes at 3:00 p.m. So they can go back
home. At school he learned German. During lessons he used to put his ball on
his table and teachers were not very happy about it...
Tom Sadler began
basketball at 14 years old during P.E. lessons and he used to train before
going to school, at break time and after school, that is from 3:30 p.m until
6:00 p.m. He was a basketball nut ! Maybe it was easy for him because when he
was a teenager, he grew up very quickly so he was already very tall for his
age. He played at 16 years old at a national level in the English junior team.
He got his first job as a basketball
player in Horsens in Denmark then in New York. He has already played in Greece,
in Turkey and in Czech Republic. He has been in France for 3 years, first he
played in La Rochelle,
then in Luçon and now in Saint Dizier. The team of Saint Dizier contacted Tom's agent to ask him
to join the team. He trains 2 hours a day and he has got matches on the
weekend.
Tom is very keen on Paris
but he misses his family a lot but this one visits him every month. He didn't
find any differences between playing in France and abroad: "Wherever you go, it's the same game but different coaches so different personalities." he says. Tom Sadler didn't speak French before
arriving in France and he isn't married. After his 2-hour daily training
session, he has got time for himself, for example he goes to the gym club, to
the swimming pool, to the supermarket or he watches movies, plays videogames,
in brief he has a very cool life. He thinks he will stay in Saint Dizier Basket
team one more year (see more if they win the championship) and after still one
or two years, he will quit playing at a professional level, he will return to
England and he will open a gym club. He is 28 years old today, and basketball
is a physical sport so his body gets tired, particularly his knees and his back.
Tom Sadler got operated after an accident while playing basketball.
Thanks a lot to Tom Sadler for accepting to
answer our questions and good luck for him in the world of basketball.
